Care and Information for Sulcata Tortoises
Please rest assured that all Sulcata tortoises sold on our website are captive-bred and not captured from the wild. They are herbivores, meaning they eat plants, fruits, and vegetables. Young tortoises may chase and eat the occasional insect. It is important to provide them with a high-fiber (and low-protein) diet.
This fast-growing tortoise, also known as the African spurred tortoise, is easy to breed in captivity when fully grown, which takes several years. Its scientific name is Geochelone sulcata and it belongs to the Testudinoidea family and the Centrochelys genus.
These tortoises are native to the Sahara Desert and prefer drier habitats. They should not be kept in damp environments. They are docile pets and always leave a deep impression on onlookers. In fact, whenever someone sees our adult tortoises, they immediately want to know how to purchase one.
When ordering our medium-sized and adult reptiles (the gender of baby tortoises cannot be determined), feel free to request a male or female tortoise (or any combination), but please note that we cannot guarantee the gender. However, we can assure you that an experienced reptile handler will try their best to select the specific tortoise you request.
100% Live Arrival Guarantee. Please read our guarantee details before placing your order.
As we responsibly sell reptiles (as well as amphibians, tarantulas and scorpions) online, we reserve the right to delay your order in the event of quite rare and unacceptable weather conditions. This is entirely for the safety of the animals. If this happens, you will receive an email notification.
